This tasting is perfect for a wine neophyte or anyone who wants an excuse to explore new interesting wines. Yes, that means you.
Exercise your wine smarts in the comfort of your own place
This is a free online seminar and here’s what you’ll learn:
- The 4-step tasting method
- Assess a wine for quality
- Take accurate tasting notes
- Taste 3 terrific wines from 3 countries
- Walk away confident with your newly found wine smarts
What you’ll need for the tasting:
The 3 Wines
Since not everyone will be able to receive shipments of wine, you can use the tasting notes below to find a similar wine at a wine shop near you. Just be certain to get the same variety and hopefully, the same vintage. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

This copper-gold hued Albariño is from the Rioja area in Spain (called Valles de Sadacia for Albariño). It has zesty aromas of lemon, ruby red grapefruit, lily, green apple, melon and nectarine. On the palate it’s bone-dry with flavors of lemon, grapefruit pith, wet gravel and lime peel. Clean and zesty.

POGGIO ANIMA “ASMODEUS” NERO D’AVOLA 2013
This Nero d’Avola comes from high elevation vineyards (1,600 ft) in Sicily. It has bold aromas of blackberry jam, ripe plums, licorice and an underlying earthy smell of dessert herbs. On the palate it punches bold black fruit flavors with softer tannin and an underlying earthy potting soil note. Fruity, smooth and earthy.

THREE WINE COMPANY ZINFANDEL 2013
An American Zinfandel from Contra Costa County offers up a bold-rich texture with high alcohol (around 15%) and aromas of blackberry, strawberry, peach preserves, Chinese 5-spice and sweet tobacco. On the palate it’s bold and dry with flavors of fresh berry sauce, cinnamon-spice, a touch of dill, and plum sauce. Juicy and rich.
