Ukraine's Top Wine Finds A Home in New York
This white wine is well known in Moldova, Ukraine and Georgia and planted almost nowhere else. So, it was quite to find Rkatsiteli growing in New York.
The grape is thought to have originated in Georgia around the 1st century. This makes it quite old, much older than Cabernet Sauvignon (which emerged sometime during the 17th century.)
You'll find several styles produced with Rkatsiteli, including oxidatively aged "orange" wines, as well as light, aromatic styles like the one tasted in the video.
We were surprised with the Riesling-like nature of this wine accentuated with its distinct herbal character. It makes a great match with Thai-inspired cuisine.
The wine in this video is from Wine Folly Club!
