Oaky White Wines | Wine Unpacked
ABC – Anything but Chardonnay started a buttery revolt. But we can’t blame the grape! Madeline unpacks two white wines in search of oak and balance.
Wines Mentioned
MAHA Estate | Villa Creek Cellars
2019 Bone White
Adelaida District | California
The 2019 Bone White is wonderful balance of richness and tension. It is a wine for all seasons. Drink it cold on a warm summer day or at cellar temp on a cool winter night. Notes of orange marmalade, apricot and brioche tee up a generous palate of honey drizzled pear finished with a pinch of sea salt that transcends to a focused thread of minerality and freshness. This wine is firing on all cylinders at the moment but will age gracefully for 10-20 years.
Jordan
2019 Chardonnay
Russian River Valley | California
Flavors of kumquats, Gravenstein apples and Meyer lemon peel dance with a harmonious frame of creaminess, juicy acidity and oak barrel notes, making it very versatile at the dinner table. Hints of tangerine peel and subtle green apple laced in oak linger on the succulent finish. More expressive in its youth than previous vintages.
