Summer Treat: Simple Sangria Granita

A simple and classy way to eat your wine this summer. We consulted the expertise of James Spica of New Confectioner in Hudson Valley, NY who has been making wine sorbet and even an IPA beer sorbet that caught our attention. What makes these frozen treats so awesome is the lack of fat and the fact that they are not overly-sweet. Feel free to adjust. For instance, we put sweet coconut shavings on top of ours.

Simple Sangria Wine Granita Recipe

How to Make Sangria Granita

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup of full-bodied red
    wine
  • 1/2 cup of water &
    1/2 cup cane sugar
  • Juice and zest of 1 lime,
    1 lemon, and 1 orange
  • 2 tablespoons of frozen
    concentrated orange juice
  • Saucepan, Measuring Cup,
    Tablespoon,
    9×12 Metal Pan, Zester

Directions

Add wine, water, and sugar to sauce pan, and bring to a boil and remove from heat.

Add the zest, juice, and frozen orange juice to the sauce pan, and stir until the frozen OJ is incorporated.

Pour into a metal pan, and pop into the freezer. Stir every 30 minutes, until all the ingredients are uniformly frozen. Spoon into cups and garnish with fruit slices.

Serves 4
